Travel in Style.. part one-

Getting away in the winter for a week or even just a long weekend is definitely on my list and probably yours too. Packing up and getting ready?  Are you anxious yet?  There's really no need to panic over packing no matter where you are heading.  Here are a few  tips to make this pesky task, easy and simple.

1. Don't be a pack rat..

Ask anyone who knows me - I take as little as possible when traveling. It has become sort of a personal challenge!  I hate having more things than I need- hate unpacking a load of clothes when I get where I'm going and truly do not like looking at any unworn outfits at the end of a vacation week. Whether you are going for a quick getaway down south for some sun and relaxation or a week long ski trip, laying out your clothes/outfits a few days before is a must.  Start with the basics- undergarments, socks, pj's,  and work your way from there. Stick with simple styles and a single color story. Seven days vacation does not require seven outfits - figure you will take three and repeat.  Finish with a  few accessories that will add style and interest. If you are still not convinced contact me and I will prove that it can be done!

2. Travel in Style..

We all like to be comfortable when traveling but please leave the sweatpants/workout pants at home or for your teenage daughter.  There are so many good other options.  While I don't suggest the heels ( as in the above photos!) I do like looking neat and pulled together - think cozy not schleppy. You never know who you are going to run into.. My standard "go to" plane outfit: Paige jeans - (they are very stretchy) ballet flats or driving shoes, tank top, cashmere sweater, warm scarf (air travel necessity) and a light weight leather jacket.  If I'm going somewhere cold- I'll swap a pair boots and a shearling for the flats and the leather jacket.  A functional but stylish tote bag and/or a great looking carry on and you are set.

Me getting ready to travel to Napa last summer - This tote is my go to piece for every trip. Bought it on sale at the Gucci store over ten years ago!  Industructable, goes with everything, has doubled as a beach bag and also big enough for day trips.. The sweater is Lauren by Ralph Lauren - big and warm and great for traveling.

Carry on, Carry on..

What should your carry on bag consist of?  What can't you live with out even for a day? It's so personal but here are a few of my own must haves:
Advil, lipstick, jewelry, medications, nail file, travel documents, mints, healthy snacks, water(after you pass through security) small money for tips, earphones, phone, computer, eyewear, reader, hand sanitizer, facial wipes, chargers, cards.. did I forget anything? Some of my friends throw in an extra outfit and small make up bag in the event of lost luggage- not a bad idea..

Piece of advise - keep your furry friends out of sight when pulling out that suitcase - they can get very depressed and out of sorts - I think we all have had that experience ..
