As the Labor Day weekend stretches out before us and the hot, hazy days of August fade to cooler September temperatures, its time once again to begin the seasonal edit of your summer wardrobe. For many years this used to overwhelm me- there were just so many hard and fast fashion “rules” about what one was supposed to wear or not wear after Labor Day -Thankfully not any more - You can easily continue to wear many of your favorite summer pieces well into the fall season - some actually will work all year round. Even those white jeans – just pair them with a chunky sweater, boots and a leather handbag and your good to go for at least a few more months…
Take advantage of the pieces inside your closet - the light weight sweaters, flowy skirts, jeans, shirts etc, that can be instantly updated to fall status by simply re -combining them in a different way. Think in terms of adding :
1 - Pretty scarves in some warm rich tones to wrap yourself up in or:
2 – Some jewel toned earrings, a necklace or a stack of bangles –
3 - Warm rich colors paired with softer more summery tones-
4- A lot more layering...
Here are a few examples of the same great handbag (Zara) and sweater (Missoni) making the transition from summer to fall:

Simply by adding some darker colors and a few heavier looking accessories the whole outfit transitions beautifully.
Another piece that is a year round staple for every wardrobe is the white blouse in cotton, silk or any other fabric combination. Everyone should own at least one-(but really more than one) Simply elegant and classic every time...

Or try one of my favorite combinations - Black skinny pants with a white or cream silk blouse - a chic look for all seasons - switch out your summer sandals for stilettos, your raffia clutch for a beautiful leather one, and some substantial jewelry - costume is fine - and you will never be caught with "nothing to wear" ever again- Enjoy the rest of your summer :) (By the way - if you like Ray Bans- go to www.cheapmaggies.com for discounted designer eyewear - they carry every designer brand - except for Chanel - check it out!)
